BJP state vice president and prominent Bhojpur leader Visheshwar Ojha was shot dead on Friday evening at an Ara village when the leader had been talking to some people alongside road. Ojha had unsuccessfully contested against RJD nominee and former MP Shivanand Tiwari’s son Rahul Tiwari from Shahpur constituency. This is the second murder of a politician in last 10 days since the killing of LJP Vaishali leader Brijnathi Singh. A BJP worker from Chhapra was also killed on Friday afternoon.
BJP called it a “political killing” and served 72-hour ultimatum to the state government to arrest killers of Ojha or else face state-wide protest. LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan asked Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar if “jungle raj had returned in Bihar”. Former BJP Assembly Opposition leader Nand Kishore Yadav said “political killings had increased under Grand Alliance government and CM Nitish had lost control over governance”. Ironically, the incident took place when Nitish Kumar had just concluded his two-day law and order review meeting.
The incident took place at around 6.30 pm when Visheshwar Ojha (53) had sat in his vehicle after extending marriage invitation to a relative at Sonbarsha village of Shahpur. Some muffled assailants started spraying bullets on Ojha, who died on way to the hospital.
Ojha had long-time rivalry with one Shivajit Mishra, who reportedly had campaigned for RJD. He had aspired to become legislator and was given BJP ticket in place of siting MLA Munni Devi.
Ojha had been engaged in altercation with Bhojur police top officials during PM Narendra Modi’s Ara rally during Assembly elections. Ojha was one of BJP state vice presidents and taken as one of prominent upper caste leaders of Shahabad region.
